In response to my post yesterday my Uncle, who is a christian responded with this.

…the health and safety of people should come before a money. It’s interesting that some Pro-life evangelicals are inconsistent in that the economy is more important than protecting precious lives from this disease. We have all been effected financially by this COVID-19 Pandemic, but the lives of people should always come first. Being Pro-life means protecting life at any stage of life.

Uncle Steve

I am not pro life, I believe that a woman is able to make decisions without legislation. I believe her decision will be correct because women are just as capable of making decisions as the men who don’t have regulations regarding their body. With that being said I appreciate what my uncle said. It reminded me of a quote from Sister Joan Chittister, an American Benedictine nun and theologian.

I do not believe that just because you’re opposed to abortion that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don’t? Because you don’t want any tax money to go there. That’s not pro-life. That’s pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is.

Sister Joan Chittister

I learned about Sister Joan Chittister when working at 8th Day Center for Justice. I worked with nuns and lay people all of which were from a christian background. I decided a long time ago that I am not christian. I feel like there is far too much damage done by organized religion, in particular the “christians” in the United States. Seeing the post from my uncle and the deep desire for social justice I saw and learned from the people I worked with at 8th Day gives me a little hope that some who claim to be christian have also studied, listened, and took to heart what that should actually mean.

The Mundane

Me and Matt hung out outside today. It was very nice out. I’m very lucky to be in quarantine with this guy.

We have some dandelions in our back yard. I think they’re pretty. I know they’re supposed to be weeds but I like em’.
